Twenty nine volunteers comprise the natural and technological disaster management team set up by Thessaloniki?s Aristotle University (AUTH) Civil Protection Office. The team is made up of 24 AUTH employees and 5 students and its goal is to deal with natural disasters and technological accidents not limited on campus by offering immediate help to students and citizens in need. They are trained in fire fighting, rescuing drowning people, first aid and rescuing of earthquake victims trapped under collapsed buildings. The AUTH Civil Protection Office also held first aid seminars attended by 130 university employees, while other 33 have become certified users of automated external defibrillator (AED).
